High-altitude pyramid column arcs and kaleidoscope sky (6 May,China)

Every year from March to May seems to be the pyramid column arcs' season for China. In the 2024 season, the most eye-catching display occured on 6 May, ChangSha, HuNan Province. At altitude of about 71.3°, the Pyramid column arcs, PC and Wegener crossed each other, bringing a spectacular picture of the sky.

(张晖)ZHANG Hui's stack image through a stack of 112 photos spanning 10 minutes. BGR and USM processes make arcs clearer.

Below are the results of a preliminary simulation using ZHANG Jia Jie 's program.

Well, now we are already looking forward to the second half of the year. Unlike March to May, June to August seems to be the peak time for pyramid plate arcs and 28° arcs for China. Please wish us luck.

It seems that all of the images expect the gif are not viewable. Nice display though!

    1. Thank you Michael. Alec told me 'Sometimes there is a problem if you copy them over from another document.' I think I have fixed this problem, please help me to check :)

It's great. Took some repeated viewings for my brain to get used to it. In old drawings no such display has been depicted. Full 46° halo is not commonly photographed either in high clouds, though here a little segment is cut out. Not sure, but I may have one or two (almost) full 46° halos in stacks from Chiang Mai (I have a massive, stultifying backlog and these remain still unpublished).

The Chinese halo season is the time for quivering anticipation of things wonderful. Be the summer 2024 the best ever!

  4. What a sharp display!
Do you guys over china have some more images like this ? I mean, do you have forums/blogs where you share/discuss about those kind of displays?

    Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thanks Nicolas! No doubt, TheHaloVault is one of the best halo comunity. In China, We discuss ice halos in dozens of 'wechat' groups, which are divided by the region where the participants live. Sometimes I share sky wonders on Weibo(https://weibo.com/u/2539943557), but the context is in Chinese.

  5. Thank you for the Weibo link. Unfortunatly, I did not manage make it work, as if it was not accessible from France.
    I'll try from another location.
